Children's Ministry

·  Kids Time is a time where children (K-5th grade) meet once a month for fun activities.   Check out the Church Calendar for when activities are scheduled and the details.

·  Teacher Workday Adventures (TWA) are planned when both year round and traditional school students have the same day off.

·  Mt. Sylvan's Week at Camp Chestnut Ridge (K-6th grade) Please contact the church office for details

·  Wonder Week (2 1/2 - 5 yrs old) Kids make crafts, sing songs, and learn bible stories.  Friday morning, the parents are invited to a program where the children share what they have learned followed by a fellowship lunch.

·  Performing Arts Day Camp (K - 5th grade) Kids spend a week learning a musical play with biblical themes, which includes performances on Thursday night and Sunday morning.  Early registration is necessary.

·  Vacation Bible School (All ages) A variety of programs and activities are offered for all ages.

Mt. Sylvan and Scouts


Mt. Sylvan Methodist Church sponsors four Girl Scout Troops, a Cub Scout Pack and a Boy Scout Troop. The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have been sponsored by Mt. Sylvan for twenty-eight years. Facilities are provided for all scout troops or cub dens for meetings and major activities and in return the scouts contribute by means of service projects for the church. The girls and boys are all very active in a variety of learning experiences. All units are broken into age levels so that your Scout will have age appropriate activities.


 

Girl Scouts:

Daisy Troop #799 - Meeting on the 1st and 3rd Thursday from 6:00 - 7:30 PM in the White House.  Contact Rebecca Daniels for additional details.

Junior Troop #104 - Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday in the Preschool Cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.  Contact Theresa Fore for additional details.

Senior Troop #1284 - Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday in the White House from 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  Contact Cornelia Poer for additional details.
 

Boy Scouts:

Cub Scouts Pack 408 - Meeting on the every Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:00 PM in the White House.  Contact Brad Shuler for additional details.

Pack 408 is made of five dens in ranks of Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos and Webelos 2. Each has a den leader that guides and teaches the boys to become fair and responsible members of the community while having fun along the way. The ages for Cub Scouts is 6 to 11 years (first grade through fifth).
 

Sylvan Seniors

Every Tuesday at 9:45am, there is a Bible Study.  Mt. Sylvan Seniors meet at 11:00 AM.

Youth Ministry

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) is for youth from 6th to 12th grade. The UMYF's self-defined purpose is:

We are a group of young Christians on a pilgrimage of faith in God through Jesus Christ. As growing Christians, we are seeking a more personal awareness and knowledge of God. We want to know God's will for our lives and strive to support each other as we study God's Word, perform service projects for others, and have regular social activities.
As Christians, we are often called to be different. We want to discover that difference and adopt those Christ-like values for our personal lives. We will encourage others to be a part of our group and His Kingdom. As members of this UMYF, we acknowledge our responsibility not only to this UMYF but to the entire church of Mt. Sylvan and throughout the world.

·  Liturgical Dance - 4:00 PM

·  Youth Choir - 5:00 PM

·  Snack supper ($3) and fellowship - 6:00 PM

·  Middle School (6th - 8th Grade) - 6:30 PM

·  Senior High (9th - 12th Grade) - 6:30 PM

Music Ministry



Mt. Sylvan provides a variety of opportunities to share the expression of your faith with music.


 Adults

·  Choral Ensemble - Sunday, 6:30 PM

·  Brass Ensemble - Practice time set by members.

·  Mt. Sylvan Ringers - Wednesday, 6:00 PM

·  Chancel Choir - Wednesday, 7:30 PM

·  CrossTies – Auditioned Men's Ensemble - Thursday, 7:30 PM

·  Zion’s Promise – Contemporary Ensemble - Sunday, 8:00 PM

 Youth

·  Youth Liturgical Dance - Sunday, 4:00 PM

·  Youth Choir - Sunday, 5:00 PM

 Children

·  Children's Wednesday Adventures in Music (WAM) (K – 5) – Wednesday, 3:45 - 5:30 PM  Music, choreography, sign-language, hand chimes, snack, and supervised play is provided for children of elementary school age.  Transportation for area schools is provided as requested through the church office.

United Methodist Men
The United Methodist Men usually have a breakfast meeting the third Sunday of every month at 7:15 AM.
