Each day, an estimated 13 million children under age 6 spend some part of their day being cared for by someone other than their parents. A child's experiences in these early learning years lay the groundwork for future learning and success in school. At Mt. Sylvan Preschool, it is our desire to provide a solid foundation that will allow children to enter kindergarten with the early learning skills necessary to become strong readers and good students by providing a developmentally appropriate program. Research confirms that high quality early care and education experiences have positive effects on the academic performance of all children.      Our children have frequent interaction, conversations, and storytelling time with their teachers. They have opportunities to build their language and literacy skills so they can start school prepared to learn to read. Our teachers engage children in conversation, spend the majority of their time talking to, listening to, and closely observing the children. There is plenty of activity, natural laughter, with no forced quiet or stressful noise. We help children play cooperatively by being actively involved in their play. The teachers are accessible to the children; they do not spend long periods of time talking to other teachers. Spontaneous affection is shown and unsettled children are comforted. There is continuity of care where the same teachers have the primary responsibility for the same children daily. Mealtimes are pleasant social experiences with nutritionally balanced meals.       Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit and participate in all activities. |
