Join our ministry

There are several ways to join UMW/UWF here at Mt. Sylvan.

  • Beulah Cole Circle

3RD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 9:45 AM

The circle supports many projects within the church and community. We would love to extend an invitation to new members.

  • Mildred Cooke Circle

3RD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH AT 10 AM

Has been in existence for over twenty years. We enjoy the fellowship that we have together and try to serve others.

Our circle has been making small, stuffed bears to give to those who are ill or shut-ins. These “prayer bears” are to remind recipients that they are loved and prayed for. Another project we are working on, is the collection of jeans to donate to men at Butner Hospital, many of whom come in with only the clothes on their backs. We have also been collecting food, money and supplies for Mt.Sylvan’s backpack ministry.

  • RosaBelle Mangum Circle

4TH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH AT 6 PM

Missions projects include: The Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Interfaith Hospitality Network meals, meals for Mt. Sylvan's youth program, the Backpack program, the Mitten Tree, coordination of the Silent Auction for the Fall Festival, and crafts for the same event. Circle members are moms of young children and teens, grandmothers, and professionals, who attend Mt. Sylvan and other churches. As this circle changes and grows, the purpose remains: to know God, develop a creative supportive fellowship, and expand concepts of mission through participation in the ministries of the Church.

  • McKay Circle

3RD MONDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 10 AM IN THE CHURCH PARLOR

We are named in honor of Mrs. Cora Woods McKay who was honored on Dec.4, 1966 for her service to her community, her church, and her family.

Most of our mission projects are local. We send service men and women goody bags during Christmas. We have helped with the youth project SERVE Durham. We sent money to buy a goat in Haiti and like to visit shut-ins and bring them a small gift. We also help cook dinner for the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN).
