Welcome, families!

Welcome! We are so glad you found us! At Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church, children experience a nurturing and faith-filled environment that encourages their growth as followers of Jesus. We want to partner with parents so that all children will know they are connected with God’s family. Our Children's Ministries Director,
Heather Thompson, is always happy to share and answer any questions about our program.

  • Children’s Sunday school

Sunday morning Sunday School starts each week at 9:00 a.m. in the Children's Ministry Tree House (Children's Center).

In both our PRESCHOOL and ELEMENTARY classes, we are following the Grow curriculum where each month becomes a new themed adventure as we explore and grow through scripture, music, crafts, and fellowship!

CURRENT SERIES: Christmas VacationA 5-week series from the Gospels on Christmas.

SERIES OVERVIEW: Grab your sandals, sunblock, and swim gear because it's time for a Christmas Vacation! We'll be making sand angels and roasting chestnuts around an open bonfire on our tropical getaway. You've never experienced Christmas like this! In this five-week series, we'll focus on the birth of Jesus and the way God had been planning things from the very beginning. We'll see how God sent Jesus for a reason, learn to trust God's timing, understand why God gives us what's best, and see how Jesus is why we celebrate because Jesus is God's gift to the world.

We'd love to have you join us for Sunday Morning Sunday School!

  • Nursery

Nursery is provided for children infant-3 yrs.

Whether you need nursery care so you can attend a Sunday School class and/or while you join us for Worship, your child will be in great care! When you come to our nursery, you will find a warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere!
We are blessed with great volunteers that love kids. All nursery workers have undergone a thorough background check and have been trained to follow Safe Sanctuaries procedures.

Safe Sanctuaries training certifies individuals as safe workers with children and youth in United Methodist ministries.

The nursery is found in the education building located across from the church sanctuary. Please ask any church member and they will be happy to point you in the right direction.

  • Performing Arts Day Camp (PADC)

Performing Arts Day Camp (PADC) is a summer camp for children, held each year in June. It is for children who have completed Kindergarten-5th grade (must be 6 years old by August 31st). Each day of camp will include singing, learning choreography, practicing lines and solos, recreation and games, crafts, and dancing. Most days include a light snack. Friday mornings are spent at various assisted living homes in the Durham community, performing for residents with a pizza party following. Friday evening includes a performance and reception for all friends, parents, and family!
