Mt. Sylvan Youth

Mt. Sylvan Youth is a community of middle and high school students.

Through community, service, and study, we come to know the God who made us,

how to follow Him faithfully, and how to be light in the world

as we are transformed by the Holy Spirit.

Our doors are always open to new friends and old, so come join us for some fun!

  • Sunday Night Youth group

Mt. Sylvan Youth meets every Sunday night from 6:00-8:00pm.  We eat dinner together, share games and jokes, and then do a topical study together.  It's an awesome way to anchor your week, share what's on your heart and mind, and get to know a supportive community that really cares.

  • Youth Missions

Our students value The Great Commission and have made a commitment to serve their community and the world.  We do service projects throughout the year, sometimes partnering with a church ministry, and sometimes working with the community directly.  We also take part in church-wide events like Rise Against Hunger.

  • Social media & Messaging

Mt. Sylvan Youth has an active and vibrant presence on social media. It's often the quickest way to learn about youth news, and to see pictures from our events.  Make sure to follow us!

Please sign up to receive updates via Remind - it's the primary way we share information about upcoming meetings and events! You can sign up by emailing Libba who will provide you with the link (libba@mtsylvan.org).

  • Trips and events

Outside of our regular gatherings, we have special events and trips all year long!

In August, we start the school year off with wreck night.  We play messy games with shaving cream and ice cream toppings, and then end the night with water balloons and a slip n' slide!  It's the official start to our school year program.

In October, we host our annual pumpkin fundraiser!  Students set up the patch and then staff it over the course of the month.  They sell pumpkins to our church and community and earn "pumpkin bucks" to spend on trips and events.  In 2022 we celebrated our 11th anniversary of selling pumpkins!

In November, we attend Pilgrimage, a conference event with amazing music and teaching that is usually held in Rocky Mount or Fayetteville.  Later in the month, we celebrate Thanksgiving together with a big potluck dinner!

In December, we celebrate Advent and Christmas!  This past year, our students participated in the church-wide musical service, and we had an amazing Christmas party with cookie decorating and a white elephant gift exchange.

In June, we host graduation Sunday.  We celebrate our graduating seniors during worship and send them off to their next adventure with a brunch gathering and some fanfare!

In July, we end our school year with an all-around favorite: Lake J!  We take a 5-day retreat to Lake Junaluska, where we play games, spend time in God's word, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  We host a lip sync battle, perform skits, and have so much fun!

This list is far from exhaustive, so keep an eye out for all the exciting opportunities!
